About The Staff Member

Linda is a Plant Breeder with expertise in genetics and conventional plant breeding methodologies. She holds an MPhil in Crop Science and BSc. In Agricultural Sciences from the University of Ghana, Legon.

She served as a teaching and research assistant during her national service at the University of Ghana Forest and Horticultural Crops Research Centre in 2007 and after her MPhil in 2009. She also worked with the Meridian Agricultural Services Ghana which deals in export and import of seeds (2010-2011). She joined the CSIR-OiL Palm Research Institute in 2012 with the responsibilities of;

  • Developing coconut hybrids with preferred agronomic traits and also tolerance to the Lethal Yellowing Disease (LYD) of coconuts for farmers,
  • Establishing and maintaining pollinated seed gardens
  • Conserving coconut germplasm in the country.

She is currently part of a team investigating the insect-borne prokaryote-associated diseases in tropical and subtropical perennial crops, an European Union project under the tropic safe consortium agreement. Under this project she is responsible for establishing resistance verification trials in LYD endemic localities with different ecotypes of coconuts and also profile their traits of economic interest for the country.

Linda is also the Coordinator for Research, Extension-Farmer Linkage Committee (RELC) in the Western and Western North Regions of Ghana. She ensures that research and extension activities carried out in the regions are responsive to the demands of farmers and other clients
